becoming a non-smoker: further information

before you become a non-smoker...

you do not control the habit; it controls you!

there are NO benefits to being a smoker whatsoever; nil; none; zero. A cigarette does not calm you; you merely believe it does. In fact, 10 seconds after you take a puff , your heart rate and blood pressure increase. A cigarette is not your friend; it is more likely to kill you than help solve your problems. A cigarette does not give you confidence; your perceived dependency on nicotine reduces your levels of self-worth

however, there are SO MANY benefits to being a non-smoker. Apart from the obvious health improvements, becoming a non-smoker will increase your self-esteem; you will feel proud of your achievement and experience a tremendous sense of wellbeing as a result. Deciding to quit and committing to that decision, that’s a time for real celebration

but, your decision to stop smoking needs to be something that you desire for yourself, not the result of pressure from anyone else.  Once the decision has been reached and you have totally committed yourself to it, you and I can work together in partnership to achieve your goal of becoming a non-smoker and remaining a non-smoker for the rest of your life

the thought of quitting is often much harder than actually doing it. Believe in yourself. As long as you are 100% motivated to succeed, you will cope. You will do it. And very soon you can forget that you ever used to smoke

set a date to stop smoking and build up your determination for that date. Make a list of why you have decided to become a non-smoker and what you will be gaining as a non-smoker. Keep referring to that list and adding to it. Perform regular breathing exercises in preparation for your chosen date; breathe in deeply and exhale slowly 12 times every waking hour of the day. Drink plenty of fresh water, exercise regularly and get plenty of sleep

once you decide to stop smoking and totally commit to it, you will have made one of the best decisions of your life
