weight loss / slimming hypnotherapy: typical treatment programme

please note: the following represents an example of a typical treatment programme offered by Christine Woolfenden. The number of sessions required and the exact approach adopted will be tailored to suit the specific needs of each individual client; very often, clients require fewer sessions than suggested here

SESSION 1: case history / problem analysis and explanation of hypnotherapy

introductory relaxation hypnosis sessiongoal visualisation

HOMEWORK: “Before we next meet” form


SESSION 2: exploring and accepting change

establishing commitment to the change process / uncovering any unconscious resistance to change – parts therapy (Gestalt)accepting change and building determination to succeed hypnosis sessionfurther development of goal visualisation

HOMEWORK: design a healthy eating programme and realistic exercise plan; continue listening to the relaxation CD; if appropriate, complete the “Eating Awareness” form


SESSION 3: effective weight management

direct weight management hypnosis session

HOMEWORK: continue with the healthy eating programme and exercise plan; listen to the weight management CD on a daily basis


SESSION 4: motivation

to exercise, to ignore food cravings and to improve the metabolism

HOMEWORK: continue with the healthy eating programme and exercise plan; practise positive self-talk; continue to listen to the weight management CD


SESSION 5: re-evaluation of past events:

hypnotherapy session to desensitise old experiences from the past that are interfering with the present

HOMEWORK: continue with the healthy eating programme and exercise plan; complete the Self Knowledge Audit; continue to listen to the weight management CD


SESSION 6: emotional eating

identifying and addressing emotional triggers/causescutting ties to negative emotional triggers/causes

HOMEWORK: continue with the healthy eating programme and exercise plan; complete the Negative Thoughts Audit; practise positive self-talk; continue to listen to the weight management CD


SESSION 7: stress management

direct stress reduction and relaxation scriptinstillation of a relaxation anchor

HOMEWORK: practise the relaxation anchor; continue with the healthy eating programme and exercise plan; listen to the weight management CD and continue with positive self-talk


SESSION 8: alcohol reduction / moderation (if required)

direct alcohol reduction / moderation hypnosis session

HOMEWORK: continue with the healthy eating programme, exercise plan and positive self-talk


SESSION 8/9: building confidence and self-esteem in the present

confidence building exercise to establish a vital confidence anchormirror visualisation through hypnosis

HOMEWORK: investigate and model the behaviour of a confident person whom you admire; practise the confidence/relaxation anchor; continue with the healthy eating programme, exercise plan and positive self-talk; complete the Self-Acceptance Audit; identify at least 5 goals and a realistic timetable for achieving these goals


SESSION 9/10: cementing success in the future

learning the art of self-hypnosis hypnotherapy session future-pacing, focusing on goal achievement and shape maintenance 

HOMEWORK: keep motivated! Make certain to laugh at least once a day; stretch your comfort zone on a daily basis


I RECOMMEND ONE HYPNOTHERAPY SESSION PER MONTH OVER THE FOLLOWING 4 MONTHS BUT THIS IS NOT AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE TREATMENT
